I have 1000 pins but prefer to use thread for basting. If it gets in the way I snip it. I also get the best finished results if I use the Q Snap frames, floor or lap, depending on size, for basting....

I learned the hard way as a beginner to keep away from heat when a marker says washable. I use Crayola washable markers and use cool water and let it sit for a bit. So far I have had no problems.
