I have quilted using my embroidery machine and used a mega hoop as well as a large hoop depending on the size of the block. My batting was 80/20 Hobbs and I didn't have any trouble with it shifting....

Several years ago I was on a hunt for these blankets to make a 'barn' coat and applique wool 'pennies' on it in a pleasing design. I never did find the blankets so it's still an idea!!

That's my go to measurement too. I repaired an antique quilt and it was 1" wide...cool look but a challenge to sew! But another option!
