Learned the hard way to not use stripes, etc. If it's "off " just a little bit, it makes me crazy.

I'd make it a reversible table runner. Instead of batting, I use flannel (that's been preshrunk).. that way if a person sets anything on it, it will be level.

I'd use a solid color fabric or one that "reads" solid to go around the blocks.
Then, I'd piece the print and use it as a border.

How about going with the dark backing and dark binding... but... add another strip of fabric to "frame" the quilt?

I would put a narrow ( 1 1/2" ) black border. ...

I would put a narrow ( 1 1/2" ) black border. This would give your eyes a place to "rest". Then pick something from your stash that would work with the quilt. Great used of squares.
