I see, so more of an investigation now. Yes don't try and fix it if the stitches are good.
I agree it would be useful to know what happened so it doesn't do it again.

I noticed that nobody has noticed or commented on...
I noticed that nobody has noticed or commented on my suggestion a while ago to check bobbin thread tension. Was it that stupid an idea?

Have you had a look at the bobbin case? Excessive top tension is not the only cause of straight top thread. If the bobbin tension was very loose, like if the tension spring is broken or the thread...
