Have you tried hanging it up or draping it over something and then going accross the room and then looking at it? Distance can sometimes help with perspective.

Also putting it away can help...

I so wish you had a picture. I'd love to see it. Some monochromatics don't pop. But they can be extremely elegant. Now I'm going to have to go dig through the internet and see if I can find one...
