While I have not experienced this myself, I have been told that the dyes used for darker colors may damage the thread causing it to break. Unfortunately, I don't recall a solution being offered....

I use mostly Floriani thread for my embroidery and have been very happy with the results. In fact, when I need metallic threads, that is the only brand I will use as they feel less like wire and more...
