Sorry I didn't explain right, I meant the lever at the back that lifts the little foot up and down ( the sits on the material ) Somehow, with my fiddling around I seem to have stopped it working.....

Righto... got into its innards, oiled everything in sight, cleaned all the underneath parts ( thanks for the directions) and Manicmike gave me some tips on getting those plates moving! Its 4.24am...
