I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing it out. I hadn't noticed this. It looked like a single layer to me. I also agree about why you would need this ruler and even more so now!:D

It would be wrong if the ruler edge was on a fold but in the demo it is just a single layer. This demo could be misleading to less experienced quilters.
