Necchi did make some really nice machines. You are right this can be cleaned up and made to work just fine. I love the engineering in the old Necchi machines. I can see some of the same engineering...

I got a machine that was stuck in the cabinet. The screw holding the hinge pin was loose - no access to it either. You could try positioning the machine/cabinet so it is on the end of the pin to ease...
