Actually - I will still sometimes pull a thread to straighten something. Especially if I have a limited amount of fabric.

I'm not a big fan of tearing - sometimes the fabric gets "traumatized" up...

I don't know what Peckish does - but I fold my bindings in half - and baste the raw edges of the binding together before putting the binding on the quilt.

As the binding is worked around the edge...

I learned to wet the eye of the needle instead of the thread. It does seem to help.

For the sewing machine, though - it's still easier to dampen the thread.
