Thank you for the replies. The Singer 237 does not seem to get much "attention" as some of the other models get.

The needle won't stay disengaged when the bobbin winder is engaged

I know my terminology is inaccurate - but maybe someone can help me.

I acquired a Singer 237 - and it works fine except that when I disengage the needle up and downer -

it stays disengaged...
