I heard you can get silicone covered presser feet...
I heard you can get silicone covered presser feet to help the top 'slide'. As far as the feed dogs, I read where you can put strips of waxed paper on the bottom of your fabric.

I scored a Singer 99 in a pristine cabinet...
I scored a Singer 99 in a pristine cabinet tonight - absolutely thrilled with it! :) No bobbins (but I already have some) and I found a Singer 'automatic needle threader' in the original packaging...

Check your needle & threading first: Flat...
Check your needle & threading first:
Flat part of the needle shank goes to the left.
Thread the needle right to left.
Insert bobbin with thread coming off the bobbin counter-clockwise.

The above bobbin area information regarding the 221 is the same as the 301.
Tell us what 'she' needs. More than likely oil and grease. As far as oil goes, TriFlow is highly recommended...

Reminds me when our oldest made us 'green eggs' (aka Dr. Seuss "Green Eggs and Ham") in the micro when he was about 5 yrs. old. The "green" was Comet sink cleaner........ :)

Even on a machine that doesn't have a reverse or back-tacking you can still get the beginning (or end) of your stitching tight. You just have to hold tight to the fabric and stitch in place...
