They all spark a little bit. It's caused by carbon build up arching between the brushes and the armature. Unless the motor isn't running right I just ignore it.

Put that bobbin cover back on, it looks neglected like that. And, if the spring on the plate is broken they can be replaced. My LSMG has replacement springs so I suspect yours might too....

Oh, and with the exception of the stitch length regulator which is reminiscent of the Singer Model 15, the SEWMOR 404 is pure Singer 66 underneath.
