I have a very similar machine. First get a new drive wheel, they can be had. Then if your machine is like mine the motor is attached with interlocking tabs on both the motor...

The friction drive system is not a POS. With a smooth drive wheel it works very well. I would have paid the $10.00 for that in a heart beat.
