I figured it out! The silver button, front and center of the bed of the machine pushes down releasing the latch!!! I've been trying to "lift" that button "up" and have been oiling it to loosen it up!...

This is how the needlebar is connected inside the faceplate. The little knob on the needlebar fits into the hole on the 'thing-y' on the faceplate side.
