What do you think of the sound a 301 makes when it is running? I have never heard a gear driven Singer before. Should I be hearing the gears? I took off the top plate and bottom...

Hi Retired to PA,

The stitch length knob on my 301A is the reverse/tack. Slide it all the way up to the top, that is reverse. It doesn't say it on the machine, but it does in the owner's manual....
