You are right. This makes a GREAT scrap quilt. I cut up my scraps into 2 1/2" strips and called it "A trip down memory lane" because I got to think about all the other quilts I had done with those fabrics.
You just have to make sure you keep track of how long your initial strip is. I kept a calculator by me when I was sewing them together and measured them as I went along. When I got to 1600" I stopped.
