A real 'churn dash' is the center dasher that makes an old fashioned butter churn work. The piece is shaped similar. Grandma showed me the butter churn she used as a child.
Very good.. yep.. the dash is the "post" and attached parts on the inside of of a butter churn. I can remember playing at helping my grandmother churn butter. Although she more often used the table top one that was a large glass "Jar" with paddles inside that were turned with a handle and gears outside.. kind of a precursor to today's mixer.
