There should hopefully also be some matching points on the paper pieces....to match the two sides together. I'm not great at curves, but I always find the matching middles then the two ends and then pin in between...
eta: oops misunderstood the question....If you are trying to do it after the paper is gone, I would try to mark the matching points before pulling the paper off.
