Too many years ago to count I was involved with scheduling events for the local Girl Scout Council. A relatively new employee started talking about doing a big event on the 3rd Saturday in October. Well, the rest of the room erupted all at once -- NOOOOO, not that Saturday!! The employee looked absolutely shocked at the reaction. "Well, for Heaven's sake, why not? That's a beautiful time of year around here for this event!" The rest of us kind of looked at each other with amusement, and finally someone said "We don't do ANYTHING on that weekend because it is Alabama weekend." She didn't have a clue what we were talking about. When we finally explained that the 3rd Saturday in October was when the Tennessee Vols played Alabama and that absolutely EVERYONE was going to, watching, or listening to the game and there was no way on God's green earth they would stop long enough to take their daughter to a Scout event. She was, to say the least, flabberghasted that we would let a sporting event influence us that way.

Needless-to-say, she was a blankety blank Yankee! She just didn't understand Southern priorities!
