In my early 20's I lived in Denver with a roomate from Shreveport, LA. I had a LOT of trouble understanding her. The funniest one that I remember was "My frin Linna in Houston works foh Guf Ol. It took me a while to figure out "Gulf Oil".
I was raised in KS - the Southern part - but it's not really "Southern"!
