Some like to use silk, because it is so fine, it disappears into the fabric. I have never used it because I would need so many colors and it does cost quite a bit. I like Mettler 60/2 wt. It is also very thin and comes in lots of colors. The best, in my opinion, is Superiors "frosted donut". It is a bobbin holder filled with 36 colors of Masterpiece 60/2 cotton thread. It gives you 36 colors without spending a fortune when you only need small amounts of each color. If you are only using a couple of colors, then buying regular sized spools of thread would make more sense.
