the center of the quilt is made the same way, however the cover pattern is more of a scrappy quilt. but like you said it wouldn't be hard to figure out and its one of those that you just keep putting rows on until you like the size then bind it. You don't have to put the border around it like the pattern says. APQM normally offers a pattern that is pretty darn close to the magazine version for free on their website. ;)
