I would follow Charlee's advice. I use Synthrapol all the time. I wash all quilting fabric in hot water to avoid shrinkage and color wash out. The color catcher that work like fabric softner sheets leave a slight film that some people can feel. The Synthrapol can be purchased at art stores in large bottles. It is used as part of the process in dyeing your own fabric. The bottle says "Synthrapol is an industrial strength neutral liquid, used as a prewash, afterwash or wetting agent for paint and dye. Synthrapol has a unique characteristic of keeping loose dye particles in suspension, thus preventing backstaining. This is from the bottle. And lasts longer than color catcher sheets.
