I drew them on muslin (use best quality with higher thread count like Legacy Studio muslin - JoAnn's) with pencil. Be sure to prewash to take out sizing. She colored them. We would have a small colored picture for reference. Now we lay out the pencils for her and also trace around the shape with the color she is to use.
My mother has been very determined to keep busy. She was doing wool applique with a running stitch (couldn't do blanket stitch any more). We would have needles pre-threaded for her. She finally gave up on applique. I had hoped she could do blobs of color on paper or fabric and then draw in flowers with a micron pigma pen, but that's not possible any more. She has been a very creative person in the past.
