Nothing scientific here, just opinion gained from my personal experience...solids, regardless of the manufacturer, tend to fray a bit because they are yarn-dyed before the weaving process instead of a design being printed on them after the cloth is woven. It seems like that, anyhow. I lessen this be truing up the fabric before cutting and starching a bit. That said...I just bought about 30 yards of solids from CT when they marked them down. I use them as the background fabric when I make charity quilts or to use as backing on utility items. For the money, you really can't beat the quality, IMHO.
