Hi--Lorraine Stangness (Magical Machine Quilting & Embellishment) recommends joining batting scraps together by overlapping 2 pieces of batting 4-5 inches and cutting through both of them with wavy 'S' curves (think scallops). After removing the excess (overlap scrap after cutting) you hand stitch the S seam with long overcast stitches. She says you needn't be afraid to join more than 2 pieces of batting together. I haven't tried this yet but I have lots of batting scraps for testing.
