I have done raw edge applique and you have to go slow to keep turning your fabric on curves to make it look natural. I don't care for the satin stitch around the applique. I will use this technique on folk art quilts, baby quilts and it really comes in handy to do a quick wall hanging.
I like needle turn applique and use freezer paper to get the shape of the flower, leaf, etc. It is a good take along project and for front of the tv. I am learning new things every time I do a project. And I have started working on a 5" block. The appliques are very tiny-for me, that is.
