I think your efforts are wonderful, your quilt is Beautiful and Very pretty colors, and was happy to read that you didn't throw it out or away, but instead completed it.
You need to hang onto that quilt, as a reminder in the years to come, how you overcame.
I also think I would have found it to be boring "too repetitious" for me as well.
Have you ever tried the "needle turn" applique method, I just working on learning it -it was a little different at first, and I wasn't really liking it, until I had done about 4 pieces, and now I really love doing it this way, the curves are really lovely and round, all the pieces look more real. I also embellish my pieces (especially flowers) with various types of colours, by using crayola crayons (like the kind the kids in school use) and Derwent Inktense colored pencils - makes it so much more interesting.
I just finished the Affairs of the Heart and currently working on the Little Brown Bird, and want to do Rose of Sharon.
I would like to see more of your quilting pics, when you have more completed.
