I have a white cast iron farmhouse sink and just love it....pans will mark it but I now put a dish cloth under them when I'm cleaning them. Mine is about 5 yrs old and looks like new.
We used to live in a big old house in Maine that had a huge built-in slate sink......I loved that sink. I don't think you can get slate anymore.
