As OP posted - they collected some valuable data that could come in use in the future. As for the pod, it landed and they will collect data from that as well.
I was glued to it live. When I saw him standing on the edge of the pod about to jump ... I held my breath, and I don't think I exhaled until he flattened out his spin. It was simply amazing and incredibly brave.
