I am not a fan of sampler quilts (but appreciate those who do like them). I take my orphans and the bags of scrap other pieces from my projects and make 24x24 muslin backed scrappy quilt blocks. I then take the other materials and patch them all together in a scrappy quilt. Everything matches, and nothing does. Use lots of blanket stitches and bright color variegated thread to tie everything together.
Unfortunately, scrappy quilts are on the bottom of the To Do list. I suspect the three or four I will have all the pieces together for will have to wait another 20 years (when I run out of projects).
