I would add extra batting under the clown , hands, and feet to give him some depth. Also around some if his features.Hold the baying in place with water soluble thread on top an d trim the batting close. Then I would stitch in the ditch around those parts. stitch in the ditch around the quilt he is holding as well as some of the inside patches. Then I would do some free motion on the background to accentuate your clown. After quilting you can dissolve the water soluble as it is no longer needed. Sounds like a lot but I think it would be worth it to make it very special.
