I like the idea of feathers in the border, as others have suggested. You could do two or three lines of straight stitching within each star to echo that shape and draw attention to it. Meandering or loops and stars on the squares patches.
Your quilt is beautiful! I see why you want your quilting to be special - and I'm sure it will be! What thread are you thinking of using?
