If you are asking which type is best as a starter ruler, I'd nominate the 8-1/2" x 24" Creative Grids for versatility.
I second this. I wish I had started with Creative Grids brand when I first started quilting.
The 6 1/2 X 24 or the 8 1/2 X24 is a good place to start, then add a square up ruler, 8.5 or 9.5 are the ones I use most.
