Any of the FW's and 301 can and do go out of time. I've had to retime quite a few. I have no idea why they'd tell you that. If you hit a pin or get a really good thread snarl in the bobbin assembly it can move it out of time. Does it happen a lot? No, but it does happen. If it's skipping stitches it would be one of the first things I would check besides the typical needle and bobbin case in wrong.
