It was my understanding the Devil's Food is just a richer more moist chocolate.

I just looked at the recipe and realized that was one my mother used to make back in the late 60's. Except she didn't put in the vanilla or the chocolate chips. She used it to make a 3 layer cake and she frosted it with a pudding/Dream Whip frosting. I made a few when we were first married and I had an office to take what was left. (I could eat the whole thing, it truly is the devil calling me to another piece.)
