I'm a big fan of starch and I use a heavy hand. By the time I've worked the pieces into blocks they have softened considerably. I also think starch helps stabilize the blocks. When I put the top on the frame to long arm the starch helps keep the quilt straight. This being said I only starch the fabric before cutting.
