What a shame, PamQuilts, I am sure you could learn a lot yourself just by having your instruction book beside the machine and work through each section. I have never had a formal lesson and have learnt to master my machines. I am sure you can do it.
There are a lot of online videos and Craftsy has some great classes to help you learn. I have a Brother PE770 in bought online so it didn't come with classes. I've taken classes online and gotten books to learn. I still have a lot to learn but I got started. Try some of the online classes to get you started.
