It's the height of bad manners to 'forget' to thank someone for a gift. It's happened to me too. In fact the recipient disliked her gift so much she disappeared from the entire board!
Once or twice someone has messaged me to say that their parcel has arrived and they'll thank me later - they haven't. I've also had people thank me on the thread and
not send a private message. By luck I've usually seen their post, but a personal message should really be sent.
