I have just taken a jar of dill pickles added sugar (about 1/2 cup to a gallon) stirred it till dissolved and put in the fridge. After several days I have sweet dill pickles.
I use this method but drain the pickles/cut, put back in jar and add sugar. Lay jar on it's side and roll several times during the day to coat all slices. Then in frig.
