Default Lakota Star Quilt (aka Lone Star) - first star quilt!

My dear cousin turned 50 this month and she deserves a quilt. I asked her what style and colors she wanted and figured she say I could do whatever I wanted. She's pretty easy going. However, she knew exactly what type of quilt she wanted and requested a Lakota Star quilt in blues and aquas with a cream background.

I have never attempted anything like this before! But I love a challenge, I'm not afraid to push my skills, and she's worth any amount or seaming ripping I might have to do, so I gave it a go. I found a batik jelly roll that was beautiful and I followed a couple tutorials. It turned out to be easier to put together than I originally thought! It's not perfect, but I got better with the star points as I went along. I ended up adding 4 borders because I didn't want the quilt to be skimpy on the bed.

Thanks for looking!

The Lakota Star is another name for the Lone star pattern. It's given for ceremonies and at giveaways in several different tribal traditions. We're both from South Dakota and my cousin has been a teacher on reservations for over 25 years. I did lots of research on the quilt's significance before I started and it was fascinating!
