My husband wanted me to make a college sports themed quilt for his Aunt. He lacked the vision to see my sketches and many years have gone by, but when I showed him the themed sports material he was sold. I made "Aunt Debbie Bleeds Blue" completely from start to finish in 2021.
This is an original design/layout, but it is just based on fan and star blocks with solid areas. I use a puffier batting and do less quilting than is currently popular, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. It was mostly luck that the star I chose fit perfectly with my fan block template, quilt math and standard divisions for the win (ftw -- as the gamers say).
Despite my machine going into the shop twice and various other struggles, it got to Aunt Debbie just in time for Michigan to beat Ohio in the big game. And then they went on to win the championship and beat Iowa. Not a coincidence I say -- I'm claiming credit for making the lucky quilt!!
