In all of these comments, I don’t see any mention of trimming the HST square. I know you're talking about pressing open or to the dark side, here, but if you trim your HST's square, you end up cutting through your stitching often, which can cause the seam end to open and or defeat the backstitch efforts. I love HST quilts, but hate making HST's because of the trimming. Before I learned to square up my HSTs my quilts didn’t go together as easy, nor did the HSTs stay flat because there was that little bit of excess.
