I'm very glad that you said "I don't think it's really considered appliquing". That makes it your personal opinion. Because it IS applique. But, I'm right there next to you with hating hand work except for finishing binding. Your doggies look awesome!

I'm so glad this post was started!!! I love to hand applique but haven't done any for a long time but just recently have had the "urge" to find a project that I can work on while I'm watching TV at night.

Several of you have posted what you've done and I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we'd love to see them :)

Like so many of you, my greatest challenge has been with "points". I think my problem has been that I've been leaving too much fabric at the points and that's why they haven't been sharp. Thanks Debbie in Austin for the webs. I especially like the allaboutapplique.net because she showed how to trim the fabric a little closer to make that point sharp :)

What a terrific Board this is!!

I am new to applique', I have done a couple things by machine but nothing by hand. I would love to learn how to do this so that it looks good. I would even like to try a hand applique project just to see the difference.

I like machine applique because it is faster, although if I would try needle turn by hand I might like it better.

I have an idea...why don't we start a project together? You know like the Farmers' Wife or Dear Jane quilts. I know it would be a lot of fun and we could all learn from doing the same project and discussing it here. Just a thought but I would definately participate.

I love handappliqueing, too! I'd do machine appliqueing, but when I try it, it is poor-looking!!! LOL
One of my WIP is a wall hanging for our bedroom. The scene is mountains, with pine trees and elk. I may Never get it done!!!
Another is a quilt with Sunbonnet Sue....I'll be quilting that one this winter.

I use the freezer paper method. I used to "turn" the fabric with the needle until a woman said to use the round toothpicks. I suck on one and when I need to turn the 1/4", I use the toothpick. The fabric clings to the wet wood...works wonderfully!

Almost all of my quilts are appliqued. I just love doing it. It makes the individual parts that are appliqued stand out and more noticable.
