You tatting is just lovely. I have always wanted to learn how. It looks so neat. I purchased thread, book and shuttle several years ago, and for the life of me I can't figure this out. I never before had a problem with any type of pattern or directions but I just can't seem to get the tatting directions or at least they don't work for me. Love your projects. Please be sure to teach others as it is really a dying art I think. I have not found anyone around here yet that knows how to tat, still looking though.

lovely work ... it is a dying art ... I was taught a long time ago by some lovely ladies. Its suprisingly easy once you get the hang of it but it takes a long time to actually make something which ppl cant understand

DH wanted to learn to tat and we downloaded instructions but neither of us could figure it out. I guess you have to learn from a live person. We couldn't find one of those.
So how did you learn? Beautiful work, BTW!

Hi all. I've been tatting for over 30 years. Have a website with free tatting instructions: http://www.tattingjustforyou.com and recently started a blog with free basic patterns: http://tattypatty.blogspot.com
The only trick to tatting is in learning the doublestitch and realizing that the shuttle thread has to go around the thread on your hand and not tangle with it. Unfortunately, both right and wrong stitches look the same but if you tat wrong you cannot pull the thread to close the ring.
