I have laminate in my sewing room. I purchased it at Lumber Liquidators and I absolutely love it. I've had it for 5 years and it looks as good now as it did when it was new. I like it so much that we just recently put laminate throughout our house.

I agree about going with a lighter, easier to clean color. Our house came with a darker color and it works me to death.

I've got laminate in all the bedrooms and the upstairs hall of my house. I used Pergo. I love it. It's easy to install and you can do it yourself with no problem. It's easy to take care of and I don't have to dust nearly as often as when we had carpeting. I still have carpeting in my sewing room, only because I hate the idea of moving my longarm and all of my stuff and moving it back again.

Hubby is a Pergo Endorsed Master Installer. I have Pergo in every room of the house, including bathrooms. I have had tile, wood, vinyl and carpeting and this is the epitome of ideal flooring. A couple things to think about.....what's beneath that floor is what causes the hollow sound people get. We have an underlayment of aqua cushioning (a Pergo product) that comes in large rolls. It's acoustical as well as insulating. Second point is Brad will not install any floor without gluing it. The flooring breaths like wood expanding and contracting as it should but when it's simply clicked together everything moves independently. Gluing the panels creates a single unit. They are not glued to the underfloor, they're glued to each other making it a floating floor. The 'give' is at the edges beneath the baseboards or trim.
Anything attached to your home is a serious investment and even if you choose a DIY method please go to a flooring store and talk to the people who know everything about the product. There are some lower quality grades Brad refuses to install.

We have laminate in the whole house except the bathrooms, where we have allure. I love both of them. I have a few nicks in my kitchen area but I have a marker for wood that covers them up.
We put the allure in our 5th wheel as well as the lino split when it was was below 0. I love it there as well. My DH loved how easy it was to install.

I replaced the carpet in my sewing room with a med. colored laminate. I got it at Sam's Club and it seems to be solid. There was a foam layer under each board. I like it better then my real wood floor in my dining room.
