My Bernina 830 is a pain!

I had trouble with a new sewing machine for emboidery several years ago. Sounded like the trouble you are having. They took it apart and found that there was a burr inside where the thread passed through. They fixed and I never had another problem with the machine. This was a singer emboidery machine.

I am hating my 82o right now and loathing Bernina! I want this Lemon replaced with a trouble free version but am having trouble getting an email response from them. Maybe I need to call them and tell them I am getting ready to contact a lawyer.

Jeanne, this is a post I posted on Bernina Lovers on FaceBook. If you go to Bernina Lovers you can see we are not alone. We also posted on the Bernina USA and Bernina 830 pages on Facebook.
I really wish I had read all the reviews on the 830 before I bought it. My dealer has been great and she has given me a new one, only 3 months after I got the 1st one. I know I am not the only person this has happened to because I was in class with some others who have had to exchange their machines. I really feel I have lost $12000.... more including all the feet I have purchased. Software plus..... I am no longer in love with my 830 and I am soooo disappointed. I really feel there is a design flaw with the bobbin and other areas in the machine.... If I could get a refund I would.

I am constantly being asked to buy the new 830 by a dealer. I printed out all the posts I could find online about the problems with the 830, BSR, etc and said if I had any of these problems that occurred again and again after a repair I could get a new replacement machine then I'd by one. I don't have one. LOL

I just bought a big cone of Gutermann thread and my Bernina is now sewing perfect!!! It won't work well with the small threads, but the Gutermann cones work well. Haven't had a problem since. Still can't use one of the feet. Next time I'm at the dealer's, I'll address that problem. They kinda pushed me out the door when they couldn't get my machine to accept that foot type. If they don't do something, I will call headquarters. But now, I love my machine. It was the thread all along. It just loves Gutermann cones!!!!

I would try another dealer. Berninas are wonderful machines. I have had them for years.
Sounds like the computer needs reprogrammed or something. My Bernina (I don't have a 830) feet have numbers on them and the machine picks up on the number. I woul even contact Bernina, I'm sure they would do whatever is necessary to make your machine right. Even if they have to give you another machine. Do not give up.
Get on the phone and make some calls until you are satisfied. My husband always says 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease." LOL

My experience with 830 E
I had a bad experience with my 830e. I have had it since they first came out, but due to the fact that mydaughter was ill, it had few hours on it until a little over an year ago. I was trying to make my youngest's wedding dress and it did all the things you have mentioned. Thread broke, got error messages, etc. plus bobbin system was messing up and locking. I took it in to my dealer and they worked on it. Brought it home and it started it again. (Bernina said it was operator error-I didn't load my bobbin correctly) The second time my dealer took it to bernina tech. training so it could be checked out by the experts. they replaced a number of parts and suggested I be retrained on how to thread the machine and basic use. Highly insulting, but I did it. Back home and within a month it was doing all the same stuff again. I boxed it up and wrote a letter saying I need to have my machine replaced and documeted the 5 trips back for repairs. This time they replaced the whole bobbin system, some parts on the inside, and made a lot of new adjustments. No new machine. They did not tell me what they had done or send any type of sheet documenting the repairs. They sent something to my dealer and I had to ask for a copy. It is sewing well right now, but who knows about tomorrow. It will soon be out of warranty andthen I am sunk. I can't afford to sell and buy a new one. Big loss of money. So keep on them about this machine because there are definitely some lemons out there. I have one.
