Default WOOHOO! My quilt received the "Innovation" award at my guild's quilt show

Last year I took a day-long class from Libby Lehman, and this quilt is the result of applying a bunch of the techniques she taught us. It received 2nd place in its category (abstract wall hanging), but got the judges nod for Innovation.

The quilt had been in the works for almost a year... the more I did on it, the more I was afraid to do, fearing I'd mess it up, so I delayed a long time between phases. I had to get up my nerve! I had so much fun experimenting with metallic threads, and trying out bobbin-work.

Wow! I really like it! Is there a book out there so I can give this a try?

This is very lovely, very like a Sci-Fi movie effect!

What exactly is "bobbin work"? It is not a term I have heard before.

Is this overlapped and then cut? What type of metallic threads did you use?

It's a way to use heavier threads than you could possibly thread through the upper part of your machine. You wind the thread on the bobbin, usually by hand, and stitch with the wrong side of your fabric facing up. That leaves the fancy thread on the right side.

It was quite scary the first time, but it's really fun.
