I am a hand quilter but also do machine quilting. Now I'm piecing some vintage blocks we found in my G'ma's attic and I'll hand quilt the wall hanging and table runner I'm making with them.

I love to hand quilt, but the athritis is making it hard some times...I will try the homeopathic suggestions made here, but have also begun to stitch a little larger, which reduces stress on the joints..After years of working on tiny stitches, I am going in reverse!! But it keeps me stitching on!! At times my meds make me very shaky, and the stitches get uneven, but I am doing this for me, and my enjoyment, so I keep on going!

I am a machine quilter who is converting to hand-quilting and is a little afraid of it. Not sure why, but somehow I feel like the imperfections are just part of the process with machine quilting and am afraid I will be disappointed in my handwork and have nothing to blame but myself (sometimes I blame the machine when things aren't just perfect!) But I'm really excited by a scrap quilt I did and don't want to send it out, and don't think I could maneuver it on my home machine and just kind of "feel" like hand-quilting this one is the right thing to do. Might have to ask you all for some tips though!

    sewmerry:

I am here that is what I do the most I do machine quilt my borders but other than that I had quilt my quilts.
Smaller items like placemats and wall hangings I machine quilt. I like to hand quilt I feel like I am more in charge
as I don't have to be moving the quilt around. I love hand quilting and yes we are still here.

These are just a small portion of some of my hand quilting.... I have been only handquilting - or quilting period - for the last 4 yrs. or so. I have one in the hoop right now that I'm able to get upto 10/12 stitches per inch once I get in my pace. Which is the last picture.

So handquilting is seemingly making a come back. So I proud that I taught myself how to do this wonderful art form.

    Sincerely,
    Tricia

I do both, machine quilting (stitch in the ditch) and hand quilting. This one was my first hand quilting, just to find out, if I can do it.
